I’ve never been an activity mom… I’m not the mom that thinks of new fun ways to play or new crafts to make…
But, I’ve been blessed with kids who LOVE activities.
This year I’ve been making an effort to add more fun to our homeschool and incorporate more hands-on activities and crafts, and the kids have had a BLAST.
This activity was inspired by summer and the realization that I really needed to make a craft with my kids to give my parents when they visit!
I made a quick cute printable (that you can download below), we cut up some lemons, and created this adorable and fun I Love You More Than Lemonade sensory art activity!
I Love You More Than Lemonade Sensory Art Activity
Whenever we’re going to do an activity in our homeschool, I try to make sure it’s sensory-friendly.
With this sensory art activity, we smelled the lemons and felt the rough and bumpy texture.
Two of my sensory kiddos really struggle with different textures, so this was a huge win for us!
What You Need for the I Love You More Than Lemonade Sensory Art Activity
- I Love You More Than Lemonade FREE Printable (get yours below!)
- Lemons (cut in half)
- Pink Paint (you could use yellow, we liked the pink)
Setting Up for the I Love You More Than Lemonade Sensory Art Activity
We do our best to set up activities ahead of time and let the kids “find” the activity.
So we set our table up with the printables, cut lemons, paint, and paint brushes.
That way the kids could come to the table and immediately get to work.
Have you ever tried to do an activity and had the kids all sitting at the table while you fumble around finding the supplies?
It’s not pretty… Trust me and get set up early!
How to Do the I Love You More Than Lemonade Sensory Art Activity
First, you’re going to squirt a little bit of pink paint onto the flat side of your lemon.
Spread the paint around with the paintbrush until the entire flat side of the lemon is completely covered.
You want it lightly coated, though, if you put too much on you get a big blobby circle!
Next, you’re going to use the lemon as a stamp, and make lemon prints on your printable!
We practiced pushing hard on the lemon to make sure the paint transferred.
Then you’re going to slowly pick up your lemon, and you should see a pretty good lemon shape on your printable!
(Again, if you use too much paint, this will just be a circle… #AskMeHowIKnow)
Make as many lemon prints as you’d like!
We found that 4-5 fit best with our “I Love You More Than Lemonade” printables.
One of my favorite parts about this sensory art activity is that it really focuses on process art.
While the end product looks great, it’s all about having fun while creating it.
And it’s so simple that even my toddler was able to participate and make a really pretty picture!
