This year I have been really embracing a simplified homeschool.
My husband went back to work after two years as a stay at home dad, I made a shift in my own work at home jobs, we found out we are expecting baby #6 (any day now!!), and my oldest started taking classes one day a week at the local parent partnership program.
Oh, and A-Man is now old enough to be held to legal homeschool standards, AND Cap’n M is determined to work on preschool and kindergarten skills.
It has been a year of change for sure, and with that it’s become even more vital for me to streamline my homeschool and make things as simple and easy on me as I possibly can.
Thankfully, I’ve found a math curriculum that is PERFECT for Mr. C (my gifted 9-year-old), and we’ve been outsourcing math with Teaching Textbooks 3.0 online math curriculum!
*This post is sponsored by Teaching Textbooks 3.0. I was given access to the curriculum to try with my family and compensated for my time. I was not required to give a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. Please see my full disclosure for details.
Outsourcing Math with Teaching Textbooks 3.0 Online Math Curriculum
Now, Mr. C is 9 and absolutely loves math. It’s one of his favorite subjects.
And he gets super frustrated with any math that he thinks is “too easy” or “too boring”.
So finding a math curriculum that he loves that also doesn’t require a ton of teaching-intensive time from me is quite the task!
Why Outsource Homeschool Math?
Before I dive too much into telling you all about Teaching Textbooks 3.0, why outsource homeschool math in the first place?
Well there are LOADS of reasons to outsource math.
Some moms just hate math, others get intimidated by math and don’t want to pass on that math anxiety!
For our family, outsourcing is absolutely necessary.
See, I work full time from home, and I’m also pregnant with baby #6.
Which means that I have 5 tiny humans that I have to educate, and they’re all on completely different developmental levels.
So I’ll be honest – I outsource everything that I can!
Math tends to be one of the best subjects for me to outsource, though, because Mr. C loves math and he thrives with video lessons.
What We Love About Teaching Textbooks 3.0
Convenience
This is listed first because, friend, it is the biggest benefit to myself and my family since we found Teaching Textbooks 3.0.
It’s so convenient.
I don’t have to pre-plan anything.
I open up my laptop, my son logs into his account, and he’s all set.
I’ve never actually had a more hands-off math curriculum, and I LOVE it.
(Bonus: My super independent kiddo loves it too since he doesn’t need ANY help from mom!)
Solid Reporting
Okay, so most of the time when I find a curriculum that allows me to be a little hands-off, it also means I get a bit… well… out of touch.
I can’t be the only mom who forgets to check-in on independent work consistently… Right?!
That’s why I LOVE Teaching Textbooks 3.0’s parent portal.
The reports are so easy to access, and they’re fluff-free.
I get to see my son’s scores at a glance without wading through tons of information that I don’t actually care about. It’s perfect!
Explanations for Each Problem
This is part of what makes this curriculum so hands-off for me, and it’s one of my favorite features.
See, when Mr. C doesn’t know the answer to a problem, he can see a clear explanation of the problem in real-time so he doesn’t stay frustrated OR come ask me to try to explain a math concept I haven’t thought about in 15 years.
Spiral Approach to Math
Teaching Texbooks 3.0 takes a spiral approach to math, which is my preferred method for sure.
What this means is essentially, a concept is taught and practiced, and then that same concept is reviewed periodically throughout the curriculum.
This is opposed to a mastery approach to math where once a student passes a quiz on a concept and doesn’t have to review it again.
It’s Fun!
The Teaching Textbooks 3.0 dashboard makes learning more fun by letting kids customize their own backgrounds and characters.
Mr. C loves that he can change things up on his own, and he doesn’t need to ask me to update his settings.
He has access from his own dashboard.
There are also silly clips while loading that always make Mr. C laugh.
