Spread the word!

This is the first year that I’m homeschooling more than one, and I’m nervous, to say the least. With A-Man needing a lot of hands-on teaching and Baby M and Miss S causing trouble constantly, I’m embracing one theme this homeschool year.

Simplicity.

I am on the hunt for curriculum that makes my life simpler. I’m outsourcing what I can. I’m teaching my kids to learn what they can independently. And a big part of that was bringing in an online math curriculum!

Using an Online Math Curriculum in Our Homeschool

This year I'm embracing simplicity in my homeschool, and that includes using an online math curriculum! This is seriously the simplest math curriculum I've tried!

(I received a membership to CTC Math to try, and I was compensated for my time. I was not required to give a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own. Please see my full disclosure here.)

Why Use an Online Math Curriculum

I hate math. I’d rather read one thousand books than drill math facts with Mr. C. Of course, because it’s just my luck, I have a 6 year old who is multiplying.

With an online math curriculum, Mr. C can do math independently. CTC Math has a short, to-the-point video lesson, and then immediately a math assignment. It’s seriously so easy and hands off for me, that it’s perfect for the days that I just can’t sit and do a full math lesson with him.

Besides being hands off, we loved that using an online math curriculum has made me get Mr. C regular computer time to practice his computer skills. You’d think he’d be a techy kid considering what his mom does for a living, but I don’t know if he’d ever used a laptop track pad before we started using CTC Math!

How We Use an Online Math Curriculum

The number one way that we use CTC Math curriculum is to have a hands-off option to teach Mr. C math when I just don’t have time. I am always running out of time. CTC Math picks up the slack for me when I

  • Have a deadline I need to meet.
  • Have to nurse the baby.
  • Am settling an argument between A-Man and Baby M over cars.
  • Have a wicked migraine.
  • Have to change a diaper.
  • Am handling a meltdown.
  • Just can’t bring myself to look at another flashcard.

We also use CTC Math to let Mr. C review math facts. Mr. C needs regular review of facts that he’s already learned, and I get incredibly bored using flashcards. CTC Math helps him review concepts whenever he needs to, and he has access to different grade levels!

Using an Online Math Curriculum as Co-Parents

As I’m gearing up to start our next homeschool year, I am incredibly appreciative of any computer based curriculum because it’s so simple to use at both houses. See, my ex-husband had to purchase doubles of certain curriculum, or we have to have the kids bring their books back and forth. With online curriculum, we can easily access it from both houses.

Another thing that I love about CTC Math as a co-parenting mama is that both parents can easily access the results and track progress. My ex could easily see what assignments I have selected for Mr. C and they can complete it without a headaches.

What is CTC Math?

CTC Math is a comprehensive online math curriculum for grades 1-12. It’s a curriculum that can be done independently by your homeschooler, but you get regular updates on your kids’ progress and assignments completed.

The lessons and assignments are short and they get to the point quickly. They’re filled with examples, and the examples actually give examples of what the kids will see in the assignment. Don’t tell me I’m the only one who’s taken a math class where the example is 2×4=8 and the assignment is 247/3×16%327875^3=?

Okay, I’ll be honest, I just started pressing math-y looking buttons. I told you I hate math!

Why We Love CTC Math

Okay, so I made a whole video on this that I’m adding below, but for the short version:

  • It’s simple and easy to use.
  • Mr. C thinks it’s really fun (and he loves the guy’s accent).
  • It takes something that I don’t like (math) off of my very full plate.
