Spread the word!

(Inside: Teach kids to type with free typing games online! You don’t have to spend tons of money on programs or drudge through boring lessons with free typing games!)

I grew up in a tech-friendly house.

I got my first email address at 4, and remember instant messaging family from across the country at a young age.

When I got to school, I was SHOCKED that people didn’t already know how to type. It is just so natural, right?

Well, apparently it takes consistent practicing to be able to type well, and typing practice can be pretty boring if you are just typing out words.

So as my kids are getting older, I realized it was time to start getting intentional about their typing abilities, and I am so excited we found these free typing games online that make it SUPER easy to teach kids to type!

Why is it Important to Teach Kids Typing?

But first… Why is it important to teach kids to type?

The fact is, we live in a tech-savvy society.

Schools are starting to send kids home with an iPad or a Chromebook to do their homework on.

Online research is replacing encyclopedias.

Think about it… When is the last time you booked a trip, got directions, or had a conversation with someone who lives far away without typing?

So even if you’re a family that limits the tech time in your house, I totally get it. But it’s still really important to help your kids learn to type!

PS: A-Man is autistic and he also has dyspraxia. Teaching him to type is an important step in helping him develop his communication skills.

Online Free Typing Games for Kids

The easiest way to fit typing practice into your already-too-full homeschool day is with online free typing games.

These games are fun for my kids, so they don’t complain about practicing their typing skills, and they help reinforce proper typing techniques.

I love that the fingers light up so they aren’t just telling kids which key to push, but how to push that key.

As a busy mom, I appreciate that I can set the computer up and let the kids practice independently.

It frees up my time to help a sibling do something more teacher intensive or drink my coffee in (relative) peace!

I also appreciate that it helps my kids develop basic computer skills like using the mouse and navigating within a browser.
